ister…ister... in Turkish

ister ..X.. ister ..Y.. sentence structure in English is more like if (you/he/she/they/we) want ..X.. if (you/he/she/they/we) want ..Y..

Where ..X.. and ..Y.. are sentences(actions).

The ister ..X.. ister ..Y.. can also mean whether X or Y

Okay enough with the formula thing 😠(angry wink wink), let us look at some examples.

  • İster bugün gel ister yarın gel. (Sen → You)

    • If you want come today or if you want come tomorrow.(Literally)

    • If you want come today or tomorrow.

  • İster kahve iç ister çay iç. (Sen → You)

    • if you want drink coffee or if you want drink tea. (quite literally)

    • if you want drink coffee or tea.

  • İster eve gelsin ister ofise gelsin. (O → he/she/it)

    • If he wants let him come home or if he wants let him come to the office.(Literally)

    • If he wants let him come home or to the office.

  • İster otobüsle ister taxi ile gitsin. (O → he/she/it)

    • If she wants let her come with bus or if she wants let her come with taxi.(Literally)

    • If she wants let her come with bus or taxi

  • İster Antalya gideriz ister Alanya’ya gideriz. (Biz → We)

    • If we want we go to Antalya or if we want we go to Alanya.(Literally)

    • If we want we go to Antalya or Alanya.

  • İster yemek yaparız ister sipariş veririz. (Biz → We)

    • If we want we prepare food or if we want we order food.(Literally)

    • If we want we prepare food or order food.

  • İster teklifi kabul etsinler ister kabul etmesinler. (Onlar → they)

    • If they want want they accept the offer or if they want they don’t accept the offer.(Literally)

    • If they want they accept the offer or they don’t.

  • İster onlar denizde yüzsünler ister fotoğraf çekinsinler. (Onlar → they)

    • If they want they swim at the sea or if they want they take pictures.(Literally)

    • If they want they swim at the sea or take pictures.
