From…to -DAn…-A kadar


When describing things that have a starting and ending point, whether it is an action that starts at a specific time and ends at a specific time or the boundary is geographic — From Point A and to Point B, we use "-DAn…-A kadar" to express such scenarios.

-DAn → From

  • D → d or t (f,s,t,k,c,s,h,p rule)
  • A → a or e (vowel harmony rule)

-A → To/Until

  • A→ a or e (vowel harmony rule)

kadar → it is more of magnitude measure. It could be associated with time, money, distance and more.

Examples

The scenery was amazing on the journey from Istanbul to Ankara.

  • İstanbul'dan Ankara'ya kadar olan yolculukta manzara harikaydı.

I worked hard from breakfast until lunch.

  • Kahvaltıdan öğle yemeğine kadar çok çalıştım.

I rode my bike from the park to home.

  • Bisikletle parktan eve kadar gittim.

I will be on vacation from the weekend until Monday.

  • Haftasonundan pazartesiye kadar tatilde olacağım.

Our shop is open from 10 am in the morning until 6 pm in the evening.

  • Sabah Saat 10’dan akşam saat 6’ya kadar dükkanımız açık.

We walked from the cinema to the market.

  • Sinemadan markete kadar yürüdük.

I am studying for the exam from morning until evening.

  • Sabahtan akşama kadar sınava çalışıyorum.

I will be in Istanbul from Monday until Friday.

  • Pazartesiden cumaya kadar İstanbul’da olacağım.

Our country continues to develop in every field, from health to technology, agriculture to economy.

  • Ülkemiz sağlıktan teknolojiye, tarımdan ekonomiye, her alanda gelişmeye devam ediyor.

The last sentence is probably something you would hear on the news 📺.
